EVENT INFO

Sandbar, 120 Grosvenor Street, Manchester, M1 7HL

WHEN?
Sunday 27th Feb @ 6:00pm

WHAT?
Mulranny to Manchester will be an informal night of music, poetry and stories that take you through the history of the Irish in Manchester. All the content chosen has a direct link to either Manchester, Ireland or both and features the stories of some truly incredible individuals.

WHY?
In our final year at the RNCM we have to devise a creative project that we are passionate about and has a link to music. I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to explore the Irish heritage in Manchester by tying together my love of chamber music, stories and poetry as well as being lucky enough to do this alongside my amazing friends.

WHO?
STRING QUARTET
Violin
Orla McGarrity is a Northern Irish violinist currently studying with Jim Clark at the RNCM, where she will pursue a postgraduate in September. She thoroughly enjoys all aspects of music but has a particular interest in music education, which she is fortunate to pursue as a Lead Ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation.

Rory Masterson is currently studying with Yossi Zivoni at the RNCM and had previously been under the tutelage of Krzysztof Smietana. Rory has a keen passion for chamber music, which has been encouraged by his four siblings and mother, who he regularly performs with.

Viola
Samuel Kane is a 4th year violinist studying with Cecily Ward at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. He won the Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year award, which led to performances broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster's ‘Classical Connections’ programme. Sam also has an interest in composition, having performed some of his own works at St. James’ Palace, London and at the Charles Wood Music Festival in his hometown, Armagh.

Cello
Nathan Jackson-Turner is a fourth-year cellist at the RNCM studying with Nicholas Trygstad. As a keen Chamber and Orchestral musician Nathan has been involved in many exciting projects since coming to the RNCM. Recently Nathan performed movements from Svendsen's String Octet alongside the Elias Quartet and reached the final of the 2021 Barbirolli Cello Prize.

Narrator
Jason Poots is young professional who graduated in 2021 with an honours degree in psychology from the University of Manchester. He currently works as a special needs assistant at a primary school in Northern Ireland, however music has always been a passion of his. Jason's main instruments are cello and voice and he has been a member of various choruses, chamber choirs and orchestras since primary school. His involvement in these groups has brought him great pleasure and special memories, as well as many of his closest friends.
